Shoe City
Shoe City has its roots in the Shoe industry. It was built by people passionate about shoes and passionate about giving customers a wide range of quality shoes and leading brands to choose from.
The first Shoe City was opened in Bellville in 1986 in an industrial warehouse of 500m². By 1991 there were 8 stores; Worcester, Bloemfontein, Welkom, Springs, Van Der Bijl and Witbank were added. By 1996 Shoe City had 28 stores. At the start of the next century this increased to 65 stores. In 2006 the Pepkor Group bought Shoe City and the chain is benefiting from being part of a much bigger family.
The product you will find at Shoe City has been carefully selected by a handful of well trained buyers with vast international experience. Hundreds of thousands of shoes are inspected, tested and you can be sure that when it forms part of the Shoe City range it has been picked with care. Where a suitable shoe for the diverse market can not be sourced, the team will design shoes with leading factories to bring the best possible deal to the customer.
Relationships with leading International designers and manufacturers ensure that Shoe City delivers fashion to the South African market at the same time as international retailers such as Next, Top Shop and others.
Although the business has its roots in value centres where destination shopping plays a big role it is recognising the change in the market and is opening more and more store in malls as shopping behaviour changes. A new in store look has also been created to suit this market.
